Summer Pet Safety: Tips for Beating the Heat

June often brings the first real heatwaves—and they can hit pets hard. Dogs and cats cool down differently than humans and are more vulnerable to overheating. Here’s how to keep your pet safe:

Time Your Walks Right:
Avoid walking pets during peak sun hours (10am–4pm). Early mornings and evenings are cooler and safer. We offer flexible walking hours to accommodate summer heat.

Test the Pavement:
If you can’t hold your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws. Stick to grass or shaded areas.

Always Offer Water:
Make fresh, cool water available throughout the day. For extra hydration, try frozen treats like ice cubes with peanut butter or broth.

Watch for Overheating Signs:
Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or confusion are red flags. Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds are especially at risk.

Provide Shade and Cool Spaces:
At home, make sure pets have access to shaded areas or air-conditioned rooms. Outside, avoid tying pets up in direct sunlight.

Summer is fun, but safety comes first—and we’re always watching for signs of heat stress during walks and visits.
