How Much Exercise Does Your Pet Really Need?

Exercise isn’t just about tiring out your pet—it supports their weight, heart health, and behavior. But many owners don’t know what “enough” really looks like.

Dogs Vary by Breed and Energy Level:
High-energy breeds like Border Collies and Labs often need 60–90 minutes per day of activity. Smaller or older dogs might be fine with two 15-minute walks and some light play.

Cats Need Movement Too:
Though they nap a lot, cats should engage in 15–30 minutes of active play daily. Wand toys, laser pointers, and vertical climbing spaces all help.

Signs of Not Enough Exercise:
Restlessness, excessive barking or meowing, chewing, and weight gain are red flags. A bored pet is more likely to act out.

Ways to Add More Activity:

Break exercise into short sessions

Rotate walking routes

Add mentally stimulating games indoors

Use our walking services for consistency

The right exercise routine depends on your pet—but once you find the rhythm, you’ll see the benefits in behavior, mood, and health.
